It has been asked by many customers as to what is or was the source of our Old Time Radio Material. AVPRO makes its production master copies from Transcription Discs, Master Tapes and or low generation master copies. Nothing we offer has been downloaded from the internet. Our material is not from any compressed medium
Our collection began in 1967 when we were offered the chance to transfer the Great Gildersleeve series from disc to tape. The purpose was to preserve the programs and to copy the 1943/44 season before the glass discs were broken. Unfortunately some discs were broken. Glass based Transcription Discs were used to record programs because aluminum had gone to war by 1943. Our collection has now grown to over 250,000 programs.
The material offered in this flyer is from either master tapes or transcription discs. We do not attempt to eliminate disc crackle, groove noise, or many pops and clicks. We do attempt to minimize disc noise, tape hiss, turntable rumble, and amplifier hum. To try and make everything perfect may remove much of the show material. When a program was first aired years ago, the engineers did use equalization and other sound processes to broadcast and or record the shows. As we say in our Yesterday USA Program, we try to keep the sound quality of Yesterday’s Radio as near as possible to what it was years ago when it was originally broadcast.
Many customers complain that some programs are edited with the commercials removed.
NOTE: AVPRO never edits a show to remove anything. We preserve what ever there is on the Transcription Disc and or Master Recording. Some programs were Sustained. They did not have a sponsor. The network paid for those Sustained shows. Many times syndicated shows did not have a commercial. The commercials were done live for the local market and many times never recorded That is why on some programs there seems to be a long musical interlude. This allows the local engineer to fade out the music, the commercials are done, and the music fades back in. Sometimes there is no music, just a pause. If the commercial was recorded, AVPRO preserves it for historic and nostalgic purposes. As we say on our YUSA Program, AVPRO does not encourage the use or endorse any products or service advertised in Yesterday’s Radio. |
